Oblate priest dies

SASKATOON — Rev. Valentine Fix, OMI, died Nov. 27 at Samaritan Place in Saskatoon at the age of 100. Fix was born in 1914 in Regina and attended St. Joseph School, St. Paul’s College in Winnipeg and Campion College. He entered the novitiate of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate at St. Charles, Man., professing his first vows in 1933. His scholasticate was spent at St. Charles Scholasticate, Battleford, Sask., and he was ordained to the priesthood in 1938. Most of his priestly ministry was pastoral, as he served in Unity, Kerrobert, Prelate, and Saskatoon, as well as in Winnipeg and Penticton, BC. He enjoyed a wide correspondence, and loved getting emails and cards from family and friends. A vigil of prayer was held Dec. 9 in Saskatoon, with the funeral celebrated Dec. 10, with Bishop Gerald Wiesner, OMI, presiding.
