Another Time

               "And it was night."
                             — John 13: 30

Watching the stars, Judas feels the scars
Of previous betrayal, the friction
Of silver coins, his awkward oblation.

Knowing that every tide informs a loon,
He tethers his shadow to the moon.
He weeps as surging waves unfrock
And break his weary soul against a rock.
