SASKATOON — Rev. Donald McLeod, OMI, passed away on Monday, April 13, at Samaritan Place in Saskatoon. Born March 22, 1927, in Ceylon, Ont., McLeod professed his first vows in 1953 and was ordained June 15, 1958. His ministry years were spent in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
McLeod loved many things but most of all he loved conversing with people. With his dry but lively sense of humour, he loved telling stories — stories of his conversion, stories of his childhood, and stories of his early life as a priest.
He loved his books, many of which were falling apart from having been read so often. He moved from Ontario to Mazenod Residence in Saskatoon in March 2009. He enjoyed living at Mazenod with his brother Oblates and he loved his daily interactions with all of the employees at Mazenod. McLeod especially loved his former parishioners with whom he continued to have a wide and spirited correspondence.
A vigil of prayer was held April 22 at Queen’s House Retreat and Renewal Centre. The funeral liturgy was held April 23, also at Queen’s House. Interment will be at St. Charles Oblate Cemetery, Battleford, Sask.
