KEENAN LECTURE — The 27th Annual Keenan Lecture at St. Thomas More College (which honours the memory and achievements of STM’s first dean, Dr. Michael Keenan) featured Maria Campbell — writer, playwright and teacher — speaking on Reconsidering Reconciliation in the context of Canadians’ ongoing interest in Indigenous and non-Indigenous relations. The Oct. 29 lecture at STM in Saskatoon offered thoughts and insights on reconciliation and the ongoing work of relationships with family, the land, colonial history, and community. Campbell drew on her personal experiences and teachings from mentors and elders, inviting the audience to examine their own perspective and thoughts on the topic. Campbell’s first book, Halfbreed, is considered a literary classic and is a widely taught text in Canadian literature. She has received numerous awards, including the National Aboriginal Achievement Award, the Gabriel Dumont Order of Merit and the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. She was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2008.
