April Wishes

The dirty dregs of snow
like sodden tea leaves
cling to the ground
despite my need for spring
to sing across my garden
spurring buried bulbs into bloom.

Crows and geese send out
their anthems to the sky
challenging the sun to spread
its warmth so birds, and beasts
and I can rejoice at winter’s end.
