Vol. 91 No. 45 May 14, 2014

NATIONAL DAY OF HONOUR — Thousands of people came to the National Day of Honour on Parliament Hill May 9 to honour the more than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces men and women who contributed to Canada’s military engagement in Afghanistan. The one-time event was to recognize the completion of the 12-year mission and pay tribute to those who fought, remember those who fell, and honour the families of the fallen. The crowd also observed two minutes of silence to reflect upon the sacrifices made during the mission. The Royal Canadian Air Force conducted two flybys, the first signalling the end of the moment of silence, and included the CC150 (Airbus), C130 (Hercules), CP140 (Aurora), CC177 (Globemaster), CH146 (Griffon) and the CH147 (Chinook).
