SEMINARIANS INSTITUTED AS LECTORS — Chinh Vu from Vietnam and Arpee Urquico from Philippines were instituted as lectors during a brief ceremony at the 11:00 a.m. Aug. 3 Holy Rosary Cathedral mass celebrated by Archbishop Daniel Bohan. The lector role is to bring the Word of God to the faithful and is the first step on the journey to priesthood. “It gives no special powers,” said vicar-general and cathedral rector Rev. Lorne Crozon. The ceremony involves the presentation of a Bible. Bohan in his homily said instituting lectors shows how important is the Word of God. “The Word of God is so important that it is trusted to those who have been prepared to announce it and know its importance.” Crozon said the ceremony is usually performed at the seminary during the second year of study but St. Joseph’s Seminary has a policy of allowing it to be performed in the seminarian’s home community. Both Vu and Urquico are attending St. Joseph’s Seminary, Edmonton, this fall. (Flegel photo)
